Internship Opportunity: Join Our Onchocerciasis Elimination Project in Yemen

We are offering an exciting internship opportunity for individuals passionate about public health, disease elimination, and field-based interventions. This internship is ideal for candidates with a background in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or related fields.

About EMPHNET’s Work in the Area of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)

EMPHNET is committed to supporting efforts that eliminate and control neglected tropical diseases in the region. By working closely with ministries of health and global health partners, EMPHNET contributes to mass drug administration (MDA) campaigns, disease surveillance, program monitoring and evaluation, and health workforce capacity building in hard-to-reach and underserved communities.

About the Project

This project continues EMPHNET’s collaboration with Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP) and the END Fund to eliminate onchocerciasis. The project focuses on preparatory activities, including microplanning, securing approvals, training community health workers, and supporting a third-party monitor in conducting a Coverage Evaluation Survey (CES) following the MDA.

By joining us, you will:

  • Gain practical experience working in public health initiatives targeting NTDs in a resource-limited setting.
  • Support the collection and preliminary analysis of data from field activities.
  • Learn how to evaluate large-scale community-based interventions and contribute to real-world impact.
  • Develop valuable skills in monitoring and evaluation, data management, and technical reporting.

The intern’s main responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in collecting, entering, and organizing data from the MDA and CES
  • Supporting preliminary data analysis to inform project decision-making
  • Monitoring and evaluating the work of the third-party conducting the CES, ensuring adherence to protocols
  • Contributing to documenting project processes and outcomes, including interim and final reports
  • Tracking progress against project indicators and assisting in assessing the impact of the intervention
  • Providing insights and recommendations to improve future program implementation

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Skills: Basic knowledge of NTDs, strong data management skills, familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative analysis, and strong writing and communication abilities
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and strong command of Arabic (Arabic is required due to the field setting in Yemen).
  • Other: Understanding of the context in Yemen is desired

Internship details:

  • Duration: three months.
  • Location: Face to face in Amman Jordan, with coordination with field teams in Yemen
  • Note: This is an unpaid internship opportunity
  • Deadline to Apply: April 26, 2025
