EMPHNET Launches Two New Free Online Courses Through the MARIA Project

EMPHNET is pleased to announce the launch of two new free online courses through its Learning Management System (LMS): Foundations of Implementation Research and Leadership and Management for Primary Healthcare Workers.

 

Available to participants across the Eastern Mediterranean Region and beyond, these courses are designed to support healthcare providers, public health professionals, researchers, program managers, students, and other health practitioners seeking to strengthen their knowledge and skills in implementation research, leadership, and management.

 

Foundations of Implementation Research Course

 

This introductory course provides participants with a foundational understanding of implementation research, including its purpose, functions, key domains, applications, and limitations. Participants will learn how to formulate implementation research questions, translate research findings into strategic communication messages, develop dissemination strategies, and monitor and evaluate implementation research initiatives.

The course is intended for public health professionals, researchers, program managers, policymakers, monitoring and evaluation specialists, students, and others interested in strengthening the implementation and impact of health interventions.

 

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand what implementation research is and identify when it should be used.
  2. Recognize the challenges, constraints, and limitations of implementation research.
  3. Formulate and prioritize implementation research questions.
  4. Translate research findings into strategic communication messages.
  5. Develop effective research dissemination strategies.
  6. Monitor and evaluate the impact of implementation research initiatives.

Leadership and Management for Primary Healthcare Workers Course

 

This introductory course provides participants with an introduction to leadership and management in primary healthcare settings. It covers key topics such as health program planning, value-based decision-making, stakeholder analysis, team building, interpersonal communication, problem analysis, and stress management.

 

The course is intended for primary healthcare physicians, family medicine practitioners, nurses, nurse managers, community health workers, health facility managers and supervisors, public health officers and coordinators, program managers, team leaders, district and regional health administrators, Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) residents and graduates, public health students, and other healthcare professionals seeking to strengthen their leadership and management competencies.

 

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the core concepts and principles of leadership and management in primary healthcare settings.
  2. Differentiate between leadership and management roles and responsibilities.
  3. Apply the fundamentals of health program planning to improve service delivery and health outcomes.
  4. Conduct stakeholder analyses to identify key actors, assess their interests and influence, and support effective program planning and implementation.
  5. Use value-based decision-making approaches to address challenges in healthcare settings.
  6. Apply effective team-building strategies to foster collaboration and improve team performance.
  7. Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills that support leadership, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement.
  8. Conduct problem analyses to identify root causes of challenges and develop appropriate solutions using structured problem-solving approaches.
  9. Recognize sources of workplace stress and apply stress management techniques to enhance personal well-being and professional effectiveness.
  10. Strengthen their capacity to lead teams and manage resources effectively within primary healthcare programs.
