EMPHNET’s Team Conducts Family Health Teams Training Workshop

In response to the evolving demands of primary health care (PHC), the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) in collaboration with Caritas Jordan organized  Family Health Teams (FHT) Training Workshop in Jordan, between November 21 and  22, 2023. This workshop's objective was to enhance the capabilities of healthcare providers in core competencies essential for the effective implementation of the Family Health Model.

The two-day event was strategically structured to address key skill areas crucial in PHC namely: communication, professionalism, teamwork, and managerial skills. These areas are integral to the holistic delivery of healthcare services and are pivotal in tackling the contemporary and emergent challenges faced by PHC providers.

The first day of the workshop, spearheaded by EMPHNET’s Center of Excellence Director for Applied Epidemiology, Dr. Yousef Khader, focused on the dynamics of primary healthcare teams, delineating the role of effective communication and managerial skills in enhancing healthcare delivery. Following was a presentation by EMPHNET’s Medical Epidemillogist Dr. Mohammad Abu Khudair on the importance of Teamwork in enhancing the different areas of PHC. Concluding the day was a critical session on ‘Problem Analysis’ clarified methodologies for identifying and mitigating healthcare delivery challenges.

The second day, led by the Director of the International Academy of Public Health (IAPH) Dr. Mohammad Tarawneh and EMPHNET Senior Technical Specialist Dr. Randa Saad, encompassed family-centered and patient-centered care. These sessions highlighted the significance of personalized healthcare delivery models.

Dr. Randa’s discourse on evidence-based practices and quality improvement techniques underscored the need for data-driven approaches to bridge the quality chasm in healthcare and highlighted that quality improvement is a continuous cycle based on facility, services, and quality metrics. The workshop facilitated a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications, fostering an environment conducive to professional development and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Family Health Teams Training Workshop represents a pivotal step in fortifying the capabilities of healthcare professionals in Jordan. By equipping practitioners with advanced competencies and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement, the workshop contributes significantly to the overarching goal of enhancing PHC service quality and efficacy.
